You will struggle to find a more majestic sight than an Irish Stag at dawn, standing tall and proud in a dewy Connemara woodland. Early risers around the Kylemore estate have had the pleasure of witnessing this, and now you can too in this beautiful watercolour by local artist and Kylemore Alum, Gemma Coyne.
The Wild deer have established themselves as regular inhabitants in the hills and valleys around Kylemore. This location provides the perfect conditions to hear their unique call ring out through the valleys every October as they enter “rutting season”. An unusual level of disturbance from typically graceful creatures who blend beautifully into Connemara’s “savage beauty”.
