The wild deer of Connemara are among the most elusive and awe-inspiring of Kylemore’s neighbours. In the quiet of early morning, lucky walkers may catch sight of a proud Irish stag standing tall amidst the misty woodland—a moment of stillness and majesty that feels almost otherworldly.
Throughout the year, these graceful creatures roam the hills and valleys surrounding the estate, blending effortlessly into the wild beauty of the landscape. But come October, their haunting calls echo through the glens as rutting season begins—a rare burst of drama in their otherwise peaceful existence.
This magical presence is captured beautifully by local artist and Kylemore alum Gemma Coyne, whose watercolour brings the wild deer to life in the Character of Kylemore collection.
