Beginning as an educational art room, and later serving as a lunch room in the years of Kylemore Abbey International Girl’s Boarding School, the Kylemore Soapery has continuously evolved throughout the years. Today, it stands as a testament of tradition, embodying time honoured methods to create the perfect blends.
After embarking on a journey to master the art of soap making in 2002, Sr. Genevieve returned to Kylemore Abbey, inspired by her visits to monasteries around the world. Driven by this inspiration, the Benedictine community at Kylemore Abbey dedicated years to refining the cold press method, which utilises natural ingredients. Once perfected, the Benedictine nuns of Kylemore Abbey launched their very first range, the Classic Collection.
For nearly two decades, the Benedictine Nuns have continued to preserve the soap making tradition within Kylemore, sharing the art of their craft with visitors and other religious orders from across the world. Following the success of the Classic Range and the demand for another collection, Sr. Genevieve and other members of the Benedictine Community got to work and worked tirelessly researching, trialing and reviewing new types of soaps recipes to create another perfected collection, one which encapsulated the Kylemore estate, all whilst reflecting the values of St. Benedict and they did just that.
With three handmade soaps, following one monastic tradition, the Signature Collection was created. Blending the values of St. Benedict and the beauty of the Kylemore estate, a place where the Benedictine Nuns have called home for over 104 years. The collection includes the Kylemore Seaweed Shampoo Soap, the Scent of Kylemore Abbey Garden Soap, and the Kylemore Abbey Soap Bar with Anti-Bacterial Essential Oils.

Kylemore Abbey Soap Bar with Anti-bacterial Essential Oils, crafted with the simplicity and care that defines monastic life. Combined with peppermint, tea tree, and eucalyptus, this bar is fresh, cleansing, and ideal for everyday use. With simple ingredients used with purpose, it embodies the essence of thoughtful living.
