This beautiful range of cards is taken from the paintings of Sr. Karol O'Connell OSB, printed in Ireland, and depicts the "Peaceful" Connemara Pony herd at Kylemore Abbey. Sr. Karol who is renowned nationally as a music and piano teacher and is one of the longest-serving Sisters in the Benedictine Community at Kylemore Abbey, has developed a bond with Kylemore's herd of Connemara ponies and foals since their arrival in 2019 and perhaps knows the individual ponies and their personalities better than anyone else. History of Kylemore Abbey Pottery
Kylemore Abbey Pottery was established by the Benedictine Nuns in 1973. The pottery was first produced by Sr. Agatha Martin who trained at Youghal Pottery, Co. Cork. Sr. Agatha who was originally from Dublin, first came to Kylemore as a boarder in Kylemore Abbey Girls School. After leaving school she became a nurse in Temple Street children’s hospital before returning to Kylemore to take up her vocation. Sr. Agatha was joined in the pottery by other members of the community including Sr. Aidan, Sr. Marie Bernard and Sr. Josephine. Music is Fun!
Music is Fun, and no where is this more apparent than in Sr. Karol’s music room in Kylemore Abbey. Education is a key principle in the Benedictine ethos and one which Sr. Karol practices every day. After entering the Benedictine Community of Kylemore Abbey, Sr. Karol taught music of all sorts to the students of Kylemore Abbey School – instrumental, vocal, choral, junior and leaving certificate – as well as serving the Benedictine Community as Choir Mistress and Chantress, for over forty years.
